Youth & Adult teams

For youth

"Let us introduce you to our Junior Olympic Archery Development Program - we call it 'JOAD'. JOAD is a nationwide program where certified coaches provide instruction for youth archers to help them progress in the sport at their own pace. If they are new to archery and are looking for an "archery for beginners" program, like Explore Archery, JOAD has what they need to get started! Our archery instruction teaches them important skills, let's them play exciting games and earn awards for developing fundamental skills and scoring achievements. JOAD clubs offer training and event preparation for all archery disciplines and many clubs have rental equipment available, so that you can try archery first before investing in equipment.

For adults (18+)

The Adult Archery Program is a logical “next step” for adult archers pursuing this lifetime sport. Membership in USA Archery's Adult Archery Program provides unique benefits, including the opportunity to make new friends, obtain a great upper-body workout, and the chance to build self-confidence and learn team-building skills."

Necessary gear

Worried about equipment? We've got you covered! Loaner equipment will be available to all team members for free while you find what suits you best. We suggest purchases made in this order but YMMV:

  1. armguard, release aid, chest protector (optional)
  2. quiver
  3. bow (if shooting compound, include sight and peep sight)
  4. arrows (arrows will depend on bow poundage and your draw length)
  5. bow case and stand
  6. bow accessories

What’s the schedule?

Our summer schedule is every Wednesday June through August, except on the July 4th week. The JOAD team will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 pm followed by the Adult Archery team from 7:30 to 8:30 pm.

We will compete in several tournaments in the summer:

  • USA Archery Summer Virtual Tournament (virtual)
  • USA Archery Field Nationals (Noblesville, IN, June 12-14)
  • US National Target Championships & US Open (Springfield, MO August 13-16)  (Adult only, JOAD spectators)
  • Eastern Traditional Archery Rendezvous (ETAR) (Morris, PA July 24-27)

Additional tournaments may be included as they are announced. No tournaments are required for team membership but are highly encouraged!

How do we communicate?

We use GroupMe to communicate outside of practices and follow all SafeSport guidelines to ensure the safety of our athletes and families. We'll get you set up on your first practice so the process is easy to connect up.

How much does it cost?

Dues for the youth/adult teams will be $275/$295 for the season and payable on or before May 31st. Fees go toward a team jersey, awards/pins, training equipment, space rental, and instruction. Membership on either team also includes exclusive pricing for equipment purchased through the store.

Coaching philosophy

Our coaching philosophy is a constant "work in progress" because we recognize that with any worthwhile endeavor it requires growth and commitment. As coaches and instructors, we are required to:

  • communicate plainly and with clear intent,
  • create an atmosphere of mutual respect and grace,
  • exemplify good sportsmanship, honor, and integrity,
  • provide perspective beyond the moment or the challenge,
  • believe in the potential of every individual and encourage that in themselves, and
  • look for every opportunity of growth and learning that leads to excellence.

I’m interested! What’s the next step?
